Black cocoa syrup

A rich black cocoa syrup to elevate chocolate recipes.

Ingredients

Recipe for black cocoa syrup

  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup black cocoa powder
  • 4 tbsp butter (1/2 stick)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

Directions

  1. 1

Add sugar and water to a heavy pot and cover with a lid - heat on very low heat until the sugar is dissolved. You can stir it occasionally to speed up the process.

  2. 2

Once dissolved, add butter and increase the heat to bring the mixture to a low boil, stirring occasionally for about 6-9 minutes.

  3. 3

Turn off heat and add the cocoa, salt and vanilla. Whisk to combine.

  4. 4

Pour into your storage container. Optional, blend with an immersion blender to get a silky smooth consistency.

  5. 5

Store in the refrigerator - this will last for months! The syrup will thicken over the course of the day.
