The Coffee Condiments

Sweetened condensed milk (two-ingredient)

Two-ingredient homemade sweetened condensed milk, great in coffee, baked goods, and drinks.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups milk
  • 10 oz sugar (about 1 1/4 cup)

Directions

  1. 1

Add both of the ingredients to a pot and heat on low until the sugar has been dissolved. Stir occasionally and gently with a spoon.

  2. 2

Once dissolved, turn the heat up to a low/medium until the mixture comes to a simmer. Make sure to keep this at a low simmer so that the mixture does not boil over!

  3. 3

Keep simmering for about an hour, up to an hour + 15 min, (do not stir!), until the mixture has changed color (darkened) and reduced to about 1/4 to 1/3 of the original volume.

  4. 4

Skim foam off the top of the mixture.

  5. 5

Turn off the heat and pour through a strainer into a jar.

  6. 6

Refrigerate until cool- it will thicken as it cools!

Notes

Note: if you accidentally over-cook it and it gets a little bit chunky, you can pour the mixture into your blender, blend on high, and it will return to a smooth consistency.
